"Up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun….wandering free…wish I could BE, part of that world!!!" This has to be one of my little girl’s favorite songs from the Little Mermaid movie! So, I thought I would celebrate the thought of blending the "human world" with the mermaid world in this latest party design…..a little on land, a little under the sea and a bit of magical whimsy. Enjoy!

I absolutely fell in love with the Treasures of the Deep collection offered by Shindigz and knew immediately what I wanted to do with the designs. This backyard pool settings is one of my favorite in town, and so happens to belong to a good friend and longtime client. So, this became the backdrop for our Under the Sea shoot.

We set the dessert table along the far edge of the pool, using simple burlap linen resembling sand as our base, the ruffled table skirt for a touch of femininity, and added height and dimension with these two large coral standees. When standing in front of the table, you could capture not only the infinity pool’s edge, but the hanging jellyfish, other standees in the collection and of course, Ariel played by our good friends from A Charmed Affair.

We covered the tablecloth in a white fishnet and then utilized a number of pedestals in coordinating colors for displaying our desserts. Our DIY cake was front and center, created from a $22 grocery store cake. We added light brown sugar to the top and around the base to resemble sand and then piled chocolate seashells on the top. Simple, worked with the theme and affordable!

We spruced up store bought cupcakes with these personalized cupcake wrappers and more chocolate seashell candies. For dessert variety, we also served these stunning sand dollar cookies on a bed of sand (aka brown sugar).

During the party, guests enjoyed dressing up with these seashell bracelets, which also doubled as one of the party favors. And, they snacked on these fun tropical fish lollipops displayed in plastic fish bowls filled with light blue Sixlet candies.

"Mermaid off the (Starboard) bow!" During our shoot, Ariel splashed her tail in the water in the backdrop in front of this amazingly tall purple coral standee, which was so incredibly fun! Children of all ages fall in love with characters, particularly princesses!

We created these DIY jellyfish to suspend from the outdoor pergola using modified 12" purple lanterns and small teal paper lanterns, assorted colors of crepe paper streamers and satin ribbons. They’re actually quite simple to create. Begin by cutting off a small portion of the lantern to create more of a dome shape using scissors. Using a hot glue gun, add a variety of crepe paper streamers and ribbons, alternating colors and sizes for dimension on the inner portion of each lantern. To create a more realistic looking aesthetic, we also folded the crepe paper streamers accordion style and then released. Hang using clear fishing line and, Voila!

Our Little Mermaid had a bit of fun posing in this life sized seahorse chariot standee under the cascading jellyfish, which served as an amazing photo opportunity for guests during the party!

Guests took home these glass containers filled with Candifetti in Under the Sea colors, personalized with the phrase, "Thanks for Making my Party a Splash".
