My daughter was turning six and her love for ballet had taken over her life. It was no surprise she said ballerina when I asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted. We were in bed one morning watching one of her favorite movies, Barbie of Swan Lake, and it hit me how perfect that theme was. Barbie’s dress in the movie is a soft pink and light blue, so I went with that as my color palette and worked in some metallic gold & silver with just a touch of navy blue. Since her actual birthday falls on Thanksgiving, we always have her party in early December. I was seeing so many beautiful snowflakes in all the stores for Christmas, so that gave me the idea to have it set in the wintertime.
Once all the little ballerinas arrived, they were able to choose which dress they wanted to twirl in. I had a real ballerina come and help them get ready for their own private lesson. They put on their makeup and tiaras, then she showed them how to leap, twirl and point their toes correctly. After their lesson, they twirled over to the kids’ table for some light snacks and refreshments.
Since it was wintertime, a hot cocoa bar was set up to keep everyone warm. We all joined back at the kids’ table to sing "Happy Birthday". Cookies, cake pops and the most beautiful ruffle cake satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. After some more twirling & dancing, gifts were opened, and each girl was able to pick out which Barbie Ballerina she wanted to take home.
It was such a magical experience for all the little swans attending and truly the happiest of birthdays for my little swan princess.
