Owen Airlines: Vintage Airplane Birthday Ideas

Now boarding Owen Airlines! This Time Flies theme from Shindigz is beyond cute. They have lots of décor that can be repurposed later in your child’s bedroom, which is an added bonus!

I used this theme to help celebrate my friend’s son’s 4th birthday. He’s obsessed with planes, so this theme was perfect for him.

I started off the party by welcoming guests at the gate with a cute airplane banner.

I pointed the planes in the direction of the walkway, which was decorated with balloon groupings, to lead them to the party in the backyard. When they arrived around back, they were greeted by a huge cardboard plane cutout that says, "Welcome Aboard!"

My friend Desiree, who dressed up as the flight attendant for the day, was there to welcome all the little pilots and pin their aviator wing badges on them. Once they had their badges, the kids took turns getting their photos taken in the airplane photo op.

The kids’ table was decorated with custom plates, coordinating cups and napkins stamped from around the world.

The birthday boy had his own specialty cup, which he thought was the coolest thing ever.

For table décor, I covered styrofoam with polyester fiberfill to give the illusion of clouds on the table. Inside of the clouds, I used custom centerpiece picks to complete the look.

As the kids boarded the main table, our flight attendant passed out passports with airplane crayons for them to color in while their in-flight meal was being prepared.

I incorporated all the food, drinks and desserts onto one main food table. I’ve found that this helps to pull the theme together and give the party that wow factor.

I used the photo booth backdrop in front of the table as part of the table décor. This flight crew photo booth banner was printed on sturdy vinyl and was such good quality, the mom kept it to hang in Owen’s room after the party.

For lunch, I used the personalized favor boxes as lunch boxes for the little pilots.

We served sandwiches and chips with an in-flight snack option of peanuts and pretzels. I used the personalized favor cone tray to display the chips, making them easy to pass out to the kids. The personalized pilot fuel water bottle labels added a nice touch to help dress up the drinks.

After the kids ate, they lined up for a prize punch game, followed by a dance party with the birthday boy at center stage.

It was a surprisingly warm afternoon, so we sent the kids inside to watch Super Wings while we cleared the table and set it up for treat time. I like to set the table with the kid’s dessert plates and refill their drinks because I’ve found that doing this makes serving cake much easier (and makes for the best photo ops!)

We sang Happy Birthday to the birthday boy, and then our flight attendant served cupcakes from the personalized cupcake tower.

I was able to change the wording on the cupcake tower, toppers and wrappers so they could say whatever I wanted them to. I love that Shindigz has that option!

We packed up all the kids’ goodies and leftover snacks in their favor boxes and sent them on their departing flight. With all of the personalized touches to make the celebration feel special. Another great party successfully landed!
