Kentucky Derby Party by Erin Dove

Hello Party Planners! It’s Erin Dove from The Blue Eyed Dove back with some new party décor ideas this month. A few years ago I threw a Kentucky Derby watch party. It. Was. Awesome. Not only did I enjoy planning and decorating for it, but my friends also loved it. There’s something about frilly hats, horses, chicken and waffles, and mint juleps that gets people really excited! If you’re like me and not lucky enough to actually attend the Kentucky Derby this year fear not – Shindigz has plenty of supplies to help you create an awesome party of your very own!

When I think of the Kentucky Derby I can’t help but think of the color red. For this party I accented with lots of reds. A red table cloth, red napkins, red-striped straws, and of course red faux rose bouquets (which I cut apart and spread around here and there).

To break up the red I added a burlap table runner topped with a moss runner. Sort of shabby chic looking don’t you think!? Then I scattered faux roses and rustic horseshoes across the runner.

My favorite part of the table décor are the gold horses. You can’t have a Kentucky Derby party without horses! {I used these horses and painted them gold.}

Each table setting included a gold charger, plastic ivory plates trimmed with gold, and gold cutlery.

I used racing horse props as a backdrop for my snack and beverage table. I also decorated this table with roses, a moss and rose banner, small moss sheets and a large fancy Kentucky Derby-style hat.

Snack must-haves for this party included chicken and waffles and pecan pie bites -Yummy!

Lastly, the most important thing to have at your Kentucky Derby Party are Mint Juleps! Shindigz has the perfect Julep Cups for the occasion! And you can even personalize them.

I created a small make-you-own mint julep section by placing all of the cocktail’s ingredients on a plastic silver tray.

A Kentucky Derby Party should definitely top your list of must-have parties for the year.

Be sure to have your guest’s dress for the occasion by wearing big hats and bow ties! Get ready to have fun and enjoy the "greatest two minutes in sports"!

Happy Party Planning!
