Backyard Summer Party Ideas by Julie Verville

Backyard pools around the country are starting to see some action!! With warmer weather and end of school, it’s time to celebrate with friends, family, and neighbors with a good ole fashioned backyard BBQ.

When creating this fun backyard summer party, we wanted to design a few ‘stations’ for guests; our food buffet, popsicle bar, activity station, pool games and some yard activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the afternoon and into early evening.

We kicked off the afternoon by serving pot luck appetizers on our ‘green grass’ buffet with these adorable appetizer plates. To create the green grass effect, we rolled out this green vinyl sheeting and trimmed around the edges of our granite outdoor kitchen. To add a bit of fun to our food buffet station, we added a sky inspired balloon arch using clear white polka dot balloons & pearl blue balloons and placed this amazing glam bike standee in front of our display for pops of color.

Our non-alcoholic featured beverage was pineapple lemonade served in this glass beverage dispenser alongside our cool pineapple friend sporting painted blue hair and these fun plastic sunglasses. Colorful striped cups and these fun Party Dots Luncheon Napkins livened up our party.

For dinner, we served grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and accompaniment on these fun summer inspired paper plates. Veggie straw chips were served for fun in a straw hat and watermelon popsicles were available as a refreshing side; such an easy DIY trick that makes it easy to enjoy this popular summer treat.

Seated guest tables were covered in burlap linens (easy to wipe clean) and dressed up with these white fabric petal table runners. In keeping with the summer theme, we created watermelon floral centerpieces featuring peonies & tulips in soft whites and pinks.

After dinner, kiddos enjoyed playing in the side yard, complete with a bamboo limbo kit, and splashing in the pool. An child-friendly activity station was set up with outdoor chalk, bubble wands, filled mini water guns and water balloons near the pool. Floating in the pool were our friends the giant flamingo float and giant swan float along with pool rings, a floating basketball hoop and diving toys for the kids to enjoy.

To cool off after playing outdoors, we rolled out this popsicle bar for guests to enjoy. The table’s flagship decoration was this 7’ pink popsicle standee! A variety of popsicles were set out in a galvanized bucket filled with ice to enjoy. These sweet mini popsicle lollipops were displayed in white berry baskets. And we couldn’t pass up this adorable happy popsicle cookie design for the adults (although I am pretty sure the kids grabbed most of them up….they’re as delicious as they are cute!).
