This set of three lanterns requires AAA batteries which are not included. I purchased these to use under EZ Up tents and patio umbrellas. The first batch of three I received had one light that glowed differently that the other two. I contacted the company and they immediately sent me another set which was fine. They are easy to put together, I like the design, but are not made for long term use. Two have already started to separate at the top opening after little to no handling. Still inexpensive decoration that looks nice at night.
