Top 3 tips to throw an engaging first birthday party

Date Created: 10/03/2011

Top 3 tips to throw an engaging first birthday party. It's hard to believe, but your little bundle of joy is already a year old and planning his birthday bash should be your top priority. However, the unique nature of a first birthday party makes it more of a family celebration than a bash exclusively for your child. You should plan a number of activities that gets everyone involved and ensure that you have a number of delectable foods for people to munch on. Keep a few of these ideas in mind when you're planning your child's special day.

1. Party invitations. Since this is a monumental event in your child's life, be sure to send out custom invitations to all of your guests as soon as possible. With your family coming from all corners of the country, it's a great advantage to not have to plan everything at the last minute. An invitation made exclusively for the event will also communicate to your potential guests just how important this event is to your family - hopefully they will make the effort to be there.

2. A quick and easy table spread. You don't want to be stuck in the kitchen while your child is enjoying his first birthday party, so invest in a few finger foods and have the rest catered. This will leave you plenty of time to snap photos of the event and mingle with your guests. You can spruce up the look of your serving table with party tableware, party centerpieces and streamers as well to give your bash a dose of festive color.

3. Decorations! You want this day to be unforgettable for your family, so be sure to incorporate plenty of first birthday supplies into your venue. Use mylar balloons in the communal areas of your home and party curtains near the entrance. Decorative lighting is another fabulous addition, so hang up some string lights around the perimeter of your kitchen and try rope lights on the underside of your serving table for a unique accent.

A first birthday party shouldn't be a ton of work. Instead, it should be an opportunity for you and your family to come together under the same roof and enjoy time with one another. There are only so many first birthdays that will come around, so make sure that your child's is an unforgettable occasion.
