Top 3 tips to throw a party in honor of the Chinese New Year
Date Created: 01/13/2012
While many people are still shaking off the rust from New Year's Eve festivities, there's another celebration right around the corner! January 23 is the beginning of the 4,710th year on the Chinese calendar and you can celebrate the occasion with a Chinese New Year party. Even if you know very little about Chinese culture and customs, you can throw together a rocking shindig that your friends will love. Keep the following ideas in mind to wow your guests and get them in the mood to celebrate yet another New Year's celebration.
1. Ambiance. Unless you've embraced an Asian style of interior design in your home, chances are, you'll need to give it a major face lift. This is very easily accomplished with decorative lanterns, a few tissue paper dragons and decorative dragon fans on your walls or around your serving area. Keep things consistent with a singular color scheme of red, black and yellow and use mylar balloons and streamers to fill in any blank spaces with bits of color.
2. Cuisine. Try your hand at Chinese cuisine by making your own won tons as an appetizer and creating a large stir fry for your friends to enjoy. Do your research to find the ideal mixture of ingredients to bring out the unique flavors of Asian cuisine. Make sure you have plenty of party tableware and catering supplies available to allow your guests to serve themselves. As an added decorative touch, you can head to a restaurant supply store and invest in a few containers that you would normally find at a Chinese restaurant. This will be a wonderful way to give your guests a fabulous party favor and spare your fridge from extra leftovers.
3. Party games. There are countless activities you can plan for the occasion, so let your imagination run wild. You can hold a small tutorial about how to use chopsticks or test your friends' knowledge of Chinese history. While this is a fun and festive affair, you'll have a great opportunity to teach your friends a bit about the culture of the Far East.
These Chinese New Year party supplies and a few advanced preparations are all you'll need to throw one of the best gatherings of the year!
