Top 3 tips to throw a memorable leap day party

Date Created: 02/08/2012

Top 3 tips to throw a memorable leap day party. After Valentine's Day, there isn't much excitement to be had during February until St. Patrick's Day arrives, but this year is a special exception. 2012 is a Leap Year and since February 29 only comes around every four years, this could be a perfect excuse for a winter party. Since the day falls on a Wednesday this year, you can throw a fabulous middle-of-the-week bash that is sure to give your friends a welcome break from their winter doldrums. Try out these themes that can capitalize on the unique nature of the holiday and can show off your flair for entertaining.

1. A frog-themed party. Since the "leap" year only comes every four years, take the word and run with it by incorporating a few frog-themed decorations. To ensure that your guests have a hopping good time, incorporate plenty of green flat paper, mylar balloons, streamers and other winter party supplies. You can even whip up a few green cocktails and other green cuisine to wow your guests with your creativity.

2. Create a time capsule. With the next Leap Day four years away, you can add an intriguing twist to your party by creating a time capsule. Ask your friends to bring news clippings, popular toys and products and anything else that represents 2012. While you'll have to wait a while to open it up, your next leap day party will be a monumental event. In the meantime, you can enjoy spending time with your friends as you throw the time capsule together.

3. Leap into spring. At the end of February, your guests are probably going to be sick of the winter weather, so give them a taste of what's to come with a spring theme. Use plenty of pastel colors, fresh cut flowers and other spring accents to get your friends in the mood for the coming season. You can also use party tableware to whip up a refreshing spring buffet that your guests are sure to love.

Leap days only come around every four years, so it's a perfect opportunity for your to show off your party-planning abilities. Be adventurous with your theme and go for the gusto with your party decorations to have your friends and family eagerly awaiting your next leap day celebration.
