As you get ready for your Super Bowl party, you may be shocked by the unhealthy foods that are trotted out around this time of year, and you may be thinking of making a few changes at your bash. Thankfully, there are some easy ways to cut a few calories out of your Super Bowl fare without sacrificing taste. Use these tips to your advantage to avoid feeling sluggish on Super Bowl Monday.

1. Re-invent your dip. After you've finished decorating your home with team-themed mylar balloons, streamers and curling ribbon, it's time to set about planning your menu. Chips and dip are Super Bowl staples, but many of these dips have a heavy cream base that can be extremely fatty. This year, skip the chips and go with veggies or pita chips to cut down on calories and whip up a yogurt-based dip. You can try out any range of flavors with this base, and your guests won't feel as guilty afterwards.

2. Healthier proteins. Pulled pork, hot dogs and burgers are traditionally the proteins of choice during the big game, but these tasty treats may not be kind to your waistline. Instead of doing pork, try pulled chicken with whole wheat rolls. Use these same rolls with your hot dogs and invest in a reduced fat brand. Lastly, pound ground-up turkey into patties and marinate them overnight in a dressing of your choice. With a few extra toppings, your guests won't even know they aren't made with beef.

3. Make a non-alcoholic punch. Calories from beer and wine can add up pretty quickly, and you shouldn't consume that much if you're driving home. Throw together a large bowl of fruit punch for the party - making it easily accessible will encourage your guests to go with the safe choice rather than reaching for another glass of brew. Be sure to have plenty of party tableware and paper cups for your guests to enjoy it.
