Top 3 tips to throw a delectable winter baking party. Now that the cold weather has become a factor in many parts of the country, most gatherings will be moved indoors to the warm confines of a person's home. Because it's not quite time for Christmas or Hanukkah, your winter party will need an engaging theme. Potluck parties can be a great warm-up for your holiday entertaining plans, and a baking bash could be a fabulous way to show off your culinary prowess and enjoy the tasty treats that are so enjoyable during this time of year. Keep a few of these preparations in mind to help everything go smoothly and give your friends something to do while their creations are baking in the oven.

1. Baking supplies. This is a no-brainer - you'll need plenty of baking sheets, cooking spray and mixing bowls to whip up your cakes and cookies. Additionally, look for colorful sprinkles, frosting and other finishing touches that can help your friends give their foods an aesthetic boost. Also be sure to have party tableware, catering supplies and imprinted napkins on hand to serve your guests when everything is out of the oven and ready to enjoy.

2. Party games. There may be a lull during your gathering while your baked goods are cooking in the oven, so be sure to have a few party games ready. Break out a deck of cards, a board game or design a game of trivia. This will help you and your guests pass the time, while being able to socialize and catch up with one another.

3. Ambiance. This is a festive occasion, so be sure that you have plenty of winter party supplies to perk up the look of your venue. Streamers, mylar balloons and party centerpieces are quick and easy additions that can fill your home with bits of festive color. Incorporate a few scented candles to give your home a warm glow, and be sure to bring a small stereo into your kitchen to have music playing in the background as you wait for your culinary concoctions to come out of the oven.

There's no better time of year to fill your home with the calming scents of baked cookies and desserts, and you can turn it into a social occasion that may just become a holiday tradition for your family and friends.
