Top 3 tips to throw a comfort food-themed potluck party

Date Created: 01/04/2012

Top 3 tips to throw a comfort food-themed potluck party. It looks like the winter weather is finally becoming a true factor in many parts of the country, so if you're thinking of throwing a winter party in the near future, you're going to need a great excuse for your guests to brave the cold. A potluck party featuring all of your favorite comfort foods like soup, casseroles and anything else your friends have in mind will be a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy one another's company. While this kind of get-together will make life much easier on the host, there are still a few preparations you should look into to keep everything running smoothly.

1. Warming trays. Whether your friends are bringing a crock of soup or a huge lasagna, you may not have enough oven space to accommodate everything. Invest in some catering supplies like warming trays and small burners to keep all of your guests' delectable creations at the desired temperature. You should also have plenty of party tableware, imprinted napkins and plastic utensils to avoid having to do a mountain of dishes at the end of the night.

2. Winter-themed decorations. Since you probably don't have a set theme in mind when planning your gathering, make things easier on yourself by utilizing a few seasonal decorations. Personalized banners, mylar balloons and streamers are fabulous additions, and you can even be a bit more adventurous with a bit of fake snow on your serving areas or a few hanging paper snowflakes. Most importantly, don't forget music - plug in your iPod dock and make a playlist that will last all night long. This will help you avoid running away from the conversation to change the music and keep a consistent soundtrack throughout the evening.

3. Party favors. A potluck party already has a built-in set of party favors by giving your guests a care package of all the delicious dishes. Invest in a bunch of small tupperware pieces that can be packed to the brim with food so your guests can fill them up with their favorites. This is a wonderful way to avoid leftovers stacking up in your fridge and make sure nothing goes to waste!

Relaxing at home with a good meal and decking out your space with these dazzling winter party supplies will make for an unforgettable event your friends will love.
