Top 3 tips to provide alcohol-free refreshments at your St. Patrick's Day party
Date Created: 02/24/2012
While St. Patrick's Day is usually the time of year where people like to imbibe with a bit of green beer and Irish whiskey, there are myriad reasons why one of your guests would want to be excluded from this activity. If you're planning on throwing a St. Patrick's Day party in the coming weeks, there are more than a few drink recipes out there that can adhere to your theme and help your guests avoid alcohol. When you've finished investing in a few mylar balloons, streamers and party curtains for your bash, keep these non-alchoholic drinks in mind.
1. Mocktails. The mocktail is essentially a cocktail with all of the alcohol removed, but you still have plenty of leeway to create something truly delicious. According to RealSimple.com, one idea that's perfect for this time of year is basil lemonade. You can either use a simple basil syrup or make a batch of lemonade with a few basil leaves inside. The natural spiciness of basil with the tart sweetness of lemonade will pair beautifully with one another. Be sure to have a few extra glasses and other catering supplies handy to be ready to serve your guests.
2. Green tea mojito. Traditionally made with rum, mint leaves and simple syrup, you can put a non-alcoholic twist on the drunk by including green tea. Muddle the mint leaves, a few lime slices and a dash of sugar in the bottom of the glass until they've reached the right consistency. You can then pour water and green tea on top and top the drink with a few mint sprigs. This is a drink that will fit right into your St. Patrick's Day festivities and can be whipped up quite easily.
3. A bowl of punch. If you have too many preparations to take care of, a bowl of non-alcoholic punch may be the best solution. You can combine various fruit juices into a delicious concoction your guests will love. Be sure to dress up your serving area with party centerpieces, confetti and other St. Patrick's Day party supplies to infuse your space with a bit of festive flair.
St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner, so if you're throwing a party, planning ahead for every contingency will spare your guests from a few awkward moments and help them cut loose during your bash.
