Top 3 tips to kick off spring with style at your backyard party
Date Created: 03/09/2012
The first day of spring is March 20, so as the winter gives way the beautiful weather of a new season, you're probably more than ready to take advantage of all that this time of year has to offer. To kick off spring on the right note, why not get your friends and family together for a backyard party filled with delicious grilled food? However, since it is early spring, the weather can be a bit fickle, so you'll have to make a few preparations to ensure that the bash goes smoothly.
1. Create a fire pit. In addition to keeping your friends' warm during the day and evening, your fire pit can actually function as a second cooking surface if your grill gets too full. It's a great place to warm up a pot of chili or let your friends roast a few cocktail weenies. When the sun goes down, be sure to break out the marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers for s'mores. Keep plenty of party tableware and catering supplies handy, since these treats can get a bit messy.
2. Outdoor activities. Use your first spring bash as an excuse to enjoy all of your favorite outdoor activities like badminton, horseshoes, volleyball and anything else you put into storage before winter. The key is to have a variety of party games available for your friends to play with so there's always something to do while food is being prepped. This is also a great icebreaker to include if you're having new people over to your home, as a bit of friendly competition can help some individuals unwind.
3. Set up a canopy. Even during the early spring, the sun's rays can be pretty powerful and your patio area could get uncomfortable. Set up a canopy above your main sitting area to give your friends some respite from the sun's rays. After a long winter, most people haven't built up their base tan and they can get sunburned pretty quickly!
While this past winter wasn't exactly the most strenuous one in recent memory, the coming of spring is always a time to celebrate. With these backyard party supplies, a few planned activities and delectable cuisine, you can give the season the rousing welcome it deserves.
