Top 3 tips to give your retiring co-worker an unforgettable send-off

Date Created: 02/13/2012

Top 3 tips to give your retiring co-worker an unforgettable send-off. If you've been given the task of putting together a co-workers retirement party, you have a unique venue to work with and a whole office of varying tastes. While setting up a party at work is a bit more difficult than hosting one at home, there are a few ways to streamline the process to make it far easier. After all, a retirement party will leave a lasting impression on your fellow co-worker, so you want him to go out with a bang. Keep the following ideas in mind to wow your special guest and everyone in the office.

1. A karaoke machine. Instead of playing trivia or other cliché party games, you can make lasting memories by renting a karaoke machine. Wheel it into your break room or large communal area and let your co-workers bust out all their favorite hits. This is a great way to provide instant entertainment for your gathering and hopefully your new retiree will get up and sing a few hits!

2. Party decorations. Invest in a few cost-effective party supplies like confetti, streamers, curling ribbon and mylar balloons to give your party area a chic burst of color. Use them around your food serving area, on the walls and anywhere else that could use a touch-up. When it's time for cake, hand out party tableware, plastic silverware and napkins to make cleanup much easier at the end of the bash. If you're holding the party in separate room, put some party curtains on the doorway to leave your guests waiting in anticipation for party time.

3. A photo tribute. As a retirement bash, it's your responsibility to thank your co-worker for all of his hard work and wish him well in the next stage of his life. That said, contact his family members or fellow workers to put together a photo presentation. A few pictures of his younger days will help tell the story of his time at your business and show how much he has meant to the company. This can be a great way to give your friend a wonderful send-off that he will remember for a lifetime.

Holding a work party is a unique challenge, but using these retirement party supplies and making the celebration all about your special guest will ensure that it goes off without a hitch!
