Top 3 tips for throwing the perfect Oktoberfest party

Date Created: 08/02/2011

Top 3 tips for throwing the perfect Oktoberfest party. Oktoberfest is one of the biggest parties in the world when September 16th rolls around, but many people are unaware where this celebration originated. According to, the festival began on October 12, 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwing of Bavaria to Princess Therese. The festival has been held continuously since then, and it has become a wonderful option for those looking to throw a fall party. If you're itching to host a German-themed bash this autumn, this could be the perfect opportunity to show off your party planning flair.

1. Authentic attire. Nothing will show your dedication to your theme party like donning a pair of lederhosen or a dirndl and dressing for the occasion. Additionally, you can invest in a number of colorful and engaging theme party props, cut outs, mylar balloons and streamers to instantly add some authenticity to your gathering. In addition, be sure to put out plenty of flowers and greenery in your venue - a German beer garden is normally filled with plants, so be sure to make your guests feel like they're in lush environment.

2. Party favors. An Oktoberfest party has great leeway when it comes to party favors, so give your guests something they can use right when they walk in the door. By investing in a set of customized beer glasses, your guests will be able to enjoy their favorite cold beverage and have the perfect Oktoberfest vessel for the occasion. You could also fill these glasses with some small German candies and other small gifts to get the party started off on the right foot.

3. Cuisine. While German food can require lots of preparation, stick to the basics by buying some bratwursts, knockwursts and other tasty sausages that you can easily throw on the grill. Oven-baked pretzels are wonderful accompaniments to beers and brats, and be sure to put out a good amount of mustard in hot and sweet varieties for your guests to enjoy. For vegetarians in attendance, you can whip up a fresh autumn salad with mixed greens, fresh almonds and a maple-cider vinaigrette. Be sure to use some party tableware and imprinted napkins to make cleanup easier on the hosts.

Oktoberfest is held between September 17 and October 3rd each year, so you have plenty of time to invest in some fall party supplies to create an unforgettable celebration.
