Tips to throw the perfect Mexican Independence Day party

Date Created: 08/01/2011

Tips to throw the perfect Mexican Independence Day party. September 16th is Mexican Independence Day, which commemorates the war between Mexican freedom fighters and Spanish royalists that gave birth to the nation of Mexico. Whether your ancestry is tied to this country or if you're simply looking for a fun and engaging theme party for the end of summer, this is a wonderful celebration that holds boundless potential for decorative flair and tasty cuisine.

First and foremost, you'll want to be able to give your guests some exciting accessories that will make them feel right at home during your festivities. Some light ponchos or a sombrero make for excellent party favors and will get your guests in the mood to party. As for the rest of your venue, make sure that it is as colorful as possible. Hang up a few Mexican flags, use some theme-specific party tableware, mylar balloons and southwest-themed party centerpieces to give your abode a quick face lift. Be creative with your decorations and place a small cactus, Mardi Gras beads and any other colorful pieces of flair to instantly add some personality to your serving tables.

Food is a hallmark of any cultural party, so be adventurous and try to whip up a full range of delectable treats. One idea would be to make a taco or fajita bar by setting up a large table spread with chicken, steak, shrimp and an extensive array of toppings and letting your guests build their own meal. This will help cut down on the amount of preparation needed to serve your guests, and you can use some catering supplies and imprinted napkins to make cleanup a breeze.

Since this will probably one of your last summer parties, try to blend a few frozen drinks so that your guests can indulge in one last tasty cocktail. Margaritas, daiquiris and pina coladas are all excellent choices, and you can make non-alcoholic versions for the designated drivers in attendance. Instead of putting your glassware at risk, use a bunch of plastic cocktail margarita glasses. This will save you from washing a bunch of dishes at the end of the evening and you can set up a recycling bin to make your party a bit greener.

With a few of these Mexican Independence party supplies at your disposal and bit of hard work, you can throw and unforgettable cultural celebration.
