Throw an anti-Valentine's Day party to escape all the happy couples
Date Created: 01/17/2012
As Valentine's Day approaches, single individuals will be skipping dinner reservations and ordering flowers and will instead be trying to find a way to escape the lovey-dovey atmosphere of the holiday. If you and a group of your lady friends are looking for a way to dodge the hand-holding and pet names, you can throw your own version of a Valentine's Day party that's a bit more cynical.
An anti-Valentine's Day bash is the perfect way to get all of your single friends together to enjoy an anti-love atmosphere. Sure, that special someone may be waiting in the wings, but there's no reason you can't embrace single life for an evening! Keep the following tips in mind to add to the atmosphere of your gathering.
1. A soundtrack of unromantic songs. There are countless songs out there about jilted lovers and relationships gone awry, so make these the background of your bash. Anything from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Don't Come Around Here No More," to J. Geils Bands' "Love Stinks" are perfect selections for your mix of anti-love songs. Make a playlist or accept suggestions from your guests to keep the music going all night long.
2. Party games. Since this is a de facto girl's night between you and your friends, don't hesitate to open a bottle of bubbly and play a few party games like Truth or Dare or I Never. Watch a few bad romantic comedies and do all of the wonderful girl activities that you never seem to have time for when you're in a relationship. As much as you may want to find that perfect someone, this could be the ideal occasion to treasure the time you have together with your favorite girlfriends!
3. Chic party decorations. Just because this is a small gathering between friends doesn't mean you can't go for the gusto with your Valentine's party supplies. Mylar balloons, confetti and streamers can all provide a welcome pop of color for your venue without breaking the bank. If you're serving snacks and beverages, be sure to have party tableware on-hand to make clean-up a breeze at the end of the evening.
Valentine's Day is a lot closer than you may think, so if you're not going to be spending it alone this year, make sure you have plenty of your friends close by to make it memorable experience.
