Throw a tie-dye bash in honor of White T-Shirt Day
Date Created: 01/26/2012
Believe it or not, February 11 is White T-Shirt Day, a day that was originally started as a protest by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union in 1937 when the workers wore white shirts to show their solidarity, according to HolidayInsights.com. In recent years, the unofficial holiday has taken on a life of its own, where white t-shirts are used to show support for hard-working American workers or being used as a prop in a celebration. In honor of the holiday, you can put your own twist on the standard white t-shirt by throwing a winter party that centers around tie-dying. Keep the following ideas in mind to get your bash rolling.
1. Vibrant decorations. Your tie-dye t-shirts shouldn't be the only source of color at your home! Utilize a few mylar balloons, party centerpieces and streamers to fill in the gaps of your communal area with little bits of color. If you have a bare wall that needs a bit of sprucing up, consider investing in a roll of white flat paper and draw your own designs using tie-dye hues.
2. Prep your tie-dye area. Tie-dying can be a bit messy without the proper preparations. You should invest in large pack of white t-shirts for your guests to work with and a few plastic bins to fill up with water and coloring. Of course, you'll also need a hefty amount of rubber bands and dye to allow your guests to create their ideal design. Lastly, set up a clothesline in your basement to hang up each of the shirts. According to Instructables.com, you should allow the shirts to dry for 24 hours before wearing them.
3. Decorate on a full stomach! Since this is going to be a social occasion, order out for a few pizzas or pick up a large sub sandwich. This will allow your guests to chow down and then get right to work creating their t-shirts. Be sure to invest in party tableware and plastic silverware to have one less thing to clean up when the night is over.
Tie-dying a few t-shirts is a wonderful way to escape the winter doldrums and encourage your friends to try something new. With these winter party supplies and a few smart purchases, you'll throw one of the most memorable gatherings of the year.
