Start the weekend off right with a breakfast bash
Date Created: 05/23/2012
Having breakfast with family is a bonding experience. Usually you rush through the most important meal of the day, hastily eating a bowl of cereal while slurping down some orange juice or a cup of instant coffee. When you do take time to make breakfast count, it is a refreshing moment when you can sit and contemplatively view the rest of your day and week with clear foresight. Make breakfast a moment to remember with your neighbors and friends with an early morning get-together.
Send party invitations made from corrugated paper that are shaped like a breakfast-themed item - like a piece of toast. Schedule the event on a weekend so people won't have to worry about missing work in order to attend. It is a breakfast theme party, so tell your guests to dress in their most comfortable pajamas. This will also be conducive for a more relaxing environment - people will not mind spending extra time talking and catching up, instead of rushing out the door to fulfill one of the usual obligations.
For food, you can prepare the usual breakfast fare such as pancakes and French toast. Part of the fun of breakfast is making the meal in the morning and the wonderful aromas that waft through your kitchen as the sun comes up. Share this experience and invite some of the party-goers over to help out with the preparations.
If some of your guests are vegan or have egg or dairy allergies, consider serving some mock meats like Tofurkey or Field House sausages, and perhaps preparing some tofu scramble instead of eggs.
Make sure there is adequate seating and eating areas. Push together multiple tables with a cloth draped over them so your guests aren't segregated and everyone can enjoy the conversation. Make your party centerpieces fat stacks of pancakes that anyone can dig into. You can also hang up streamers and curling ribbon to give your get together a festive air
Coffee is the staple of any breakfast table, so think about making a delicious brew that surpasses the usual quick-fix percolator coffee. One way you can do this is by grinding up the beans fresh. Hand grinders are relatively inexpensive and the taste is well-worth the price. Buy some malitas and hand pour the coffee or leave the guests to do it themselves - the extra effort will go a long way.
