Springtime is tiki time
Date Created: 04/11/2012
As the weather shifts from boldly cold to brightly beautiful, a tiki theme party is a great way to greet the new and warmer season. With a few simple party supplies, appropriate wardrobe and the right cocktails, your backyard bash can be a Pacific paradise.
Accessories Tiki torches and a few themed figurines will set the tone, but there is no limit to how tropical you can go. Bright and citrusy fruits make great party centerpieces and healthy hors d'oeuvres. To appeal to the rest of the senses, sweet scented candles accompanied by sounds of the ocean played softly over your speakers will have your guests feeling like they are beachside.
Attire Tell the prospective party goers to dress in their finest south-of-the-border garb. Hawaiian shirts are always a good idea and flip flops are ideal footwear. Party favors like fake grass skirts, leis and flower-filled tiaras will also complement your guests' appearance. Depending on how high the mercury is, encourage people to show some skin with a colorful sign that reads, "No shoes, no shirt, no problem!"
Beverages Use your blender and be generous with the tequila to come up with fruity margarita concoctions, or set the mood with scorpion bowls and mai tais. For those who don't drink, you can whip up some virgin daiquiris and pina coladas.
