September 12 is National Chocolate Milkshake Day! Here are three tips for the perfect bash

Date Created: 08/29/2011

September 12 is National Chocolate Milkshake Day! Here are three tips for the perfect bash. National Chocolate Milkshake Day is one of those random holidays on the calendar that has unknown origins, but is a great excuse for a celebration. It could also be the perfect way for you to give summer the proper send-off with one of its most delectable treats. While everyone else will be preparing for fall, you can throw a gathering that embraces the sweet delicacies of summer and shows off your party planning skills in the process. Here are three tips to throw a fabulous milkshake-themed fete.

1. A wide variety of ice cream. Just because the holiday is named after the chocolate shake doesn't mean you can't incorporate a bit of variety into your gala. You can turn your bash into a bit of a potluck by encouraging your guests to bring a pint of their favorite ice creams and seeing what sorts of crazy concoctions you can create. Be sure to have at least two or three blenders on-hand to deal with the constant mixing, and pick up a selection of crazy straws to perk up the look of their creations.

2. Finger foods. In addition to your delicious milkshakes, it's important to have a few other treats for your guests to munch on. Put out a selection of cookies, candies and other sweets that will be the perfect accompaniment to their drinks. Be sure to use some party tableware and imprinted napkins so that your friends can get everything they need, and can ease the clean-up duties on the host.

3. Colorful party supplies. The light-hearted nature of your bash absolutely calls for a few bits of color and festive flair, and you can incorporate these easily and inexpensively. Use some mylar balloons, party centerpieces, streamers and other summer party supplies to instantly create the jovial atmosphere that your theme party calls for. Lighting is also another consideration, so if your party is heading long into the evening, string some lights around the perimeter of your patio so that your party doesn't end before it has to.

With the warm weather coming to an end, you still have plenty of time to throw a summer party that pays homage to one of the season's sweetest treats. With a bit of preparation, you may just start a yearly tradition that will send out summer with a bang.
