Planning the perfect wedding reception on a budget
Date Created: 09/08/2010
Gone are the days of having parents pay for a lavish wedding ceremony, as many people have been hit hard by the economy. However, there are ways to have the perfect wedding reception party without breaking the bank.
The Washington Post sat down with wedding industry experts and asked them about ways to cut corners and still celebrate that special day in style.
Wedding industry insider Catherine Sabino recommends couples tackle the guest list first. Being able to edit the list and cut down the amount of party invitations that are sent out will help reduce the cost of the reception, which can account for 35 to 40 percent of the total wedding budget.
Celebrity wedding planner Colin Cowie suggests engaged couples look into setting up cocktail or martini bars instead of springing for expensive champagne or wine, and also urges pairs to look into serving assorted hors d'oeuvres rather than a full catered dinner.
Couples may also want to look into saving money on their wedding reception party supplies.
Simple decorations like streamer string and gossamer can replace more expensive items like lace and beading, but will still lend an elegant quality to the atmosphere.
