Make your Christmas cards stand out this year with an awkward family photo party

Date Created: 12/13/2011

Fill up your relatives' mailboxes with comical Christmas cards originating from your engaging get-together. The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year and with it comes the many traditions that show that Christmas is on its way - but a little bit of comedy can help to keep these activities interesting. One Christmas party theme that has gained traction in the past few years is an awkward family photo bash. Whether you're living with your family or looking to create unique pictures with close friends, this gathering has tons of untapped potential. Best of all, you will have a wide selection of photos to choose from when sending holiday greetings to everyone on your address list. Keep a few of the following tips in mind to create some dynamic pictures.

1. Props. You should go into your get-together with a few photo ideas in mind and have the props on-hand to make them a reality. Whether you'd like to use a bunch of ugly sweaters, chat away on cell phones or stuff your faces with copious amounts of Christmas cookies, the possibilities are nearly endless. You should also be sure to frame your photo area with mylar balloons, streamers and party centerpieces to ensure that your pictures have plenty of seasonal color. Lastly, don't forget to invest in a tripod in tandem with a digital camera to get the perfect photo the first time around.

2. Tasty treats and libations. While your friends are setting up for their awkward photos, your other guests will need something to pass the time. Set up a small table with finger foods like chips and dip and veggie plates, but be sure to have some Christmas cookies and a basket of candy canes. You can also include party tableware and imprinted napkins to make clean-up much easier at the end of the evening.

3. Music. While it may seem tempting to play the standard holiday hits during your bash, this music has been playing since the day after Thanksgiving and your guests may be a bit sick of it. Instead, opt for something that will set the mood, such as Christmas songs played on a piano to infuse your home with holiday cheer, and avoid having to subject your guests to "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," for the millionth time!

With this fabulous party theme and dazzling Christmas party supplies, you can create some ingenious Christmas cards and have a ton of fun in the process.
