Jay-Z throws a carnival to raise money for college scholarships

Rap star Jay-Z recently hosted a carnival at Hudson River Park in New York City to benefit his charitable cause, the Shawn Carter Foundation. According to MTV.com, the event was dubbed Making the Ordinary Extraordinary, and sought to raise money for potential college students from low-income families that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford their educations.
The setting was complete with a Ferris wheel, funnel cakes and everything else you'd find at a local carnival. All of the money raised at the carnival went to support the foundation and Jay-Z hopes that it can make a difference in young people's lives to help them achieve their dreams of success.
While you may not be able to afford a Ferris wheel in your backyard, a carnival party could be a great idea to celebrate your child's birthday. A few mylar balloons, streamers, confetti and other carnival party supplies can add a burst of color to your festivities.
Set up a few carnival games and consider renting a cotton candy machine. When it's time to bring out the birthday cake, be sure to have party tableware and imprinted napkins on hand to make clean-up less of a chore.
