Host your own awards show in honor of the Oscars

The Academy Awards take place this Sunday night, so if you're getting the whole gang together, you don't want your celebration to just be a group of you plopped on the couch. Instead, you can go for the glitz and glam in honor of the biggest awards show of the year with your very own stars party. You can host your own set of awards with categories that you come up with yourself that can add a comical twist to your gathering. Use the following tips to your advantage to throw an Oscars bash that your friends will be talking about for months.
1. Dress the part. If you're trying to emulate the fashion standards of the red carpet, turn your bash into a formal affair. While suits, ties and dresses are the standard fare, you can also let your guests get away with a tuxedo t-shirt if they so desire! Use some red flat paper near your entrance to create an impromptu red carpet that your guests can walk on as they enter your home.
2. The awards presentation. Create a long list of potential categories for your friends to vote on and then present a series of awards near the end of the evening. You can choose just about anything, so let your imagination run wild. Keep your friends interests in mind and come up with categories like best supporting soccer coach or best performance at the holiday work party. The options are nearly endless, so create a few open-ended awards and a few that will make light of a few inside jokes in your group. Of course, when you give a small award to the winner, make sure he gives a speech!
3. Glamorous party supplies. With your theme ready to go, it's time to set about decorating the rest of your home with cost-effective stars party supplies. Mylar balloons, party curtains and streamers are simple additions that will give your home a pop of color. If you're serving a few appetizers or entrees, include party tableware and catering supplies to make cleanup far easier at the end of the evening.
There's still plenty of time to throw together an Academy Awards party, so start planning out the decorative scheme of your venue in time for the biggest night in Hollywood.
