Have a stellar time with a science fiction theme party
Date Created: 06/07/2012
For many years science fiction has played a large in role in our society. From political critiques such as George Orwell's 1984 to fun intergalactic battles of good versus evil with George Lucas's Star Wars, these works of fantasy have garnered scores of loyal fans. Sci-fi enjoys such popularity due to the stunning fantasy and escapism of these faraway tales, that is accompanied by their vague familiarity that we can apply to our own lives. Bring the wonderment of science fiction to your home with an intergalactic party.
Create fun party invitations shaped like spacecrafts using gray corrugated paper. On the inside of the card, have your written invitation involve a reference to a sci-fi movie, such as one playing off the ever-popular Star Trek, "Are you ready to boldly go to a party that no man has gone to before."
Decorate You can still hang up the usual streamers and balloons to help infuse a party atmosphere, but there are other sci-fi-themed decorations that you will definitely want to incorporate. An example of this is a photo stand in that will let your guests pose with famous characters from popular movies and television shows such as Battlestar Galactica and The Day the Earth Stood Still. You can also hang up a personalized banner that is painted black and is emblazoned with glow in the dark stars.
For music you should play scores from sci-fi movies. Everyone knows the heroic symphony from Star Wars, or the menacing music that is played whenever the Emperor is on screen. You can also project a science fiction film on a wall using a projector and a white sheet.
Ask your guests to dress up as their favorite characters. You could be Dr. Frank N. Furter from Rocky Horror Picture show or Spock from Star Trek.
Activities Play great science fiction trivia and ask questions such as, "What is the name of the 2002 Joss Whedon series about space travelers that lasted one season?" Whoever guessed Firefly would get one point. The winner and the runner-up could get fun prizes like poster or a DVD.
For food you can serve space-themed candy like flying saucers and perhaps fashion a cake to look like a starry night. This can be accomplished by implementing dark blue or black frosting and yellow sprinkles. For beverages you can have beer and wine, as well as Harpoon's UFO.
