The 1950s was a decade of boundless optimism and a time that pioneered American style. A retro party based on the decade of cool would be a perfect costume party theme for any season.
The 1950s saw the rise of celebrity and the cultural significance of movie stars. Honor this by hanging up posters of period personalities such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley or Buddy Holly, or add some 50's classic car posters to spice up your venue. Vinyl records are also a great idea for music choices or simply to have them in view to complete your 50s recreation.
Your guests' attire should be the focal point of your 1950s celebration. For men, try leather jackets, motorcycle boots, slicked back hair and tight-fitting jeans for a cool and composed look. Women have a bit more versatility and can pull off some floral swing skirts, stocking and petticoats, perm wave hair styles and even some roller skates to complete their 50s ensemble.
Mylar balloons, party centerpieces and streamers are retro party supplies that will add festive color to your shindig to put an exclamation point on your nostalgic get-together.
