Give your backyard one last hurrah with an outdoor fall party

Date Created: 09/28/2011

Give your backyard one last hurrah with an outdoor fall party. Now that the beautiful fall weather is already bringing its mild temperatures to every corner of the country, most people are looking to get outside and enjoy the fall foliage before the mercury dips for the next few months. If you've been mulling over the idea of throwing one last outdoor gathering before the cold weather hits, you can use the beautiful autumn temperatures to your advantage. A fall party will need a few special preparations to become a winner, so keep a few of these tips in mind when you're planning your celebration.

1. Fire up the grill. Before your grill is covered up for the entire winter, give it one last go-round and whip up all of your guests' favorites. You can keep it simple with hot dogs and hamburgers, or be a bit more adventurous with some autumn spices. Throw a bit of brown sugar in your rub for ribs or chicken, and grill up apple slices that you can easily toss into a salad. The possibilities are nearly endless, so make sure you have party tableware and imprinted napkins handy to make cleanup much easier.

2. Don't skimp on the decorations! After you've whipped up all that delectable food, you'll need a place to put it all, so channel your party planning energy into crafting a beautiful serving table. Use party centerpieces, streamers and mylar balloons to add a burst of color, and don't forget to incorporate a few natural accents. A few leaves, pine cones and fresh fruit can give this area an aesthetic boost to match beautifully with your theme.

3. Build a bonfire. Even on the most beautiful fall day, your party could be cut short by dropping temperatures. You can solve this problem by building a fire pit in your yard and putting out an assortment of folding chairs so the bash can last long into the evening. Break out some marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars for s'mores, and make sure that you have a steady supply of firewood.

Autumn provides unique opportunities for outdoor gatherings, so make sure that your get-together is a memorable one. A few of these fall party supplies will go a long way to creating a beautiful setting for your guests and it will be a great opportunity to show off your party planning panache.
