Get down with disco - tips for planning a '70s party
Date Created: 04/30/2012
If your generation lived through the glitz and glam of the disco era - those few select years in the late '70s when platform shoes, dazzling lights and groovy moves were all the rage - then turn the clock back for one night with a disco theme party.
Gather all your friends who also reveled in disco's heyday with party invitations covered with glitter, and tell them to dress accordingly and dig out their old kicks and clothes. Although your hair is probably not as wild as it used to be, an Afro wig is a great addition to the outfit, accompanied by some over-sized sunglasses.
Although balloons, streamers and confetti can make the environment festive, the party's most important visual asset will be the lights. Rent or buy some great colored lights, hang a disco ball on the ceiling and turn the living room floor into inferno central.
Get people to dance with some great disco tunes from bands like the Bee Gees, the Village People and K.C. and the Sunshine Band. Play fun party games like name that tune and feel free to do your best John Travolta impression from Saturday Night Fever. Don't forget to have fun!
