Fundraising Fiesta - raising money and having a good time

Date Created: 05/03/2012

Fundraising Fiesta - raising money and having a good time It's always a good time to help out a worthy cause. Individual donations are commendable, but getting a large group of people to open their hearts and their wallets is often the most effective way to get results and raise the most money. Throw a fundraising fiesta where you invite your friends, family and coworkers to get together and donate, through a series of games and contests.

The first step is sending out party invitations, announcing your intent to get donations for a cause. Tell them that there is no minimum donation and that anything they wish to bring to the table is welcome.

The right feel for the right cause
Decorate your house with streamers, balloons and curling ribbon - you want to inspire smiles with a lively atmosphere that shows that even though you are serious about the cause, your methods for getting money are fun. Play music, or if you know people who are in a band, give them a gig and let them put on a show for the guests.

Everybody wins
Contact local businesses, whether it is a massage parlor or a restaurant, and ask them to donate gift certificates as prizes. Whatever they give will go a long way.

Have a horseshoes, poker or croquet tournament - something that anyone can enter and play. For those with a culinary flare, have the bring pastries and desserts so you can throw a bake sale. Almost everyone has some skill that they can maximize in some way to raise some money.

Another option is taking the prizes and having a raffle. Purchasing a whole roll of tickets is cheap and easy - either order them online or find them at a local office supplies vendor.

Giving - it's what's for dinner
A great way to incorporate the whole community is throwing a large dinner where everyone who wants to help cook and prepare can volunteer their time and energy. If you want, make the dinner a theme party and prepare food of a specific persuasion. Pick anything from Mexican to Irish to Ethiopian. For those who don't cook but still want to help out, they can be your resource people that help track down enough seats, find an adequate venue and purchase the right ingredients and party tableware.
