Fire up the grill for a winter backyard party

Date Created: 01/30/2012

Fire up the grill for a winter backyard party. By all accounts, this year's winter has been mild and there have been a handful of balmy days that would have been for firing up the grill. With the season's temperatures shaping up to stay mild for the rest of the year, you should keep an eye on the forecast and plan a winter backyard party. This is a perfect chance to get ready for the upcoming spring barbecue season and take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. Keep the following tips in mind to help your bash go off without a hitch.

1. Keep everyone warm. Even though the temperatures are warmer than usual, some people may start to feel a bit chilly. Consider building a fire pit in your backyard to add a bit of ambiance and to keep your guests warm and toasty. Another option is to rent overhead heaters for the day - you can place these around your communal areas and give your guests a warm zone to enjoy the day's activities.

2. Cuisine. Bring out all the regular barbecue staples like hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken, and try to whip up a few summer specialties that your guests may not have had in quite some time. Slow-roasting a few racks of ribs could be a wonderful surprise for your guests, so wake up early and start a low-roasting fire on your charcoal grill and let them cook slowly throughout the day. Be sure to have plenty of party tableware and catering supplies on hand to make serving and cleanup a breeze.

3. Party decorations. As the first barbecue of the season, your venue should reflect the festive nature of the occasion. Cost-effective backyard party supplies like mylar balloons, party centerpieces and streamers will add a burst of color to your communal area that you can place just about anywhere. Use them to spruce up the look of your serving table or dress up the backs of chairs with ease. These quick and easy additions will create a fun and jovial atmosphere that your guests are sure to appreciate.

It's never too early to get the grill started and enjoy a bit of outdoor fun. With the way that this winter has shaped up, you are sure to have more than a few balmy days to have your friends and family over for a delightful get-together.
