Dip and indulge with a chocolate fondue fiesta
Date Created: 05/29/2012
Dinner parties are a great way to create a communal atmosphere. When you feast together, you share a table, food and the quest for nourishment and comfort. This feeling is enhanced when everyone brings a dish to the table and contributes to the process of feeding and providing. Fondue is a great way to infuse fun into the tradition of sharing a meal with friends and family, so throw a potluck party and have the ultimate dessert with chocolate fondue.
Time to invite
Make your party invitations digital and create a Facebook page for your potluck. This will allow everyone to coordinate what they should prepare and reduce the chance of your guests preparing the same item. If there are dietary restrictions, let everyone know so your party-goers can try to accommodate them when they make their portion of the meal. If you find that people are having trouble deciding who will make what, take it upon yourself to designate certain plates to attendees.
Decorate
Chocolate is the underlying theme of your party, so coordinate that with the colors of your decorations. Hang up streamers, balloons or curling ribbon that have the same rich sepia color as the chocolate you will be eating later on in the evening. You can also have brown-colored party tableware and make fun and colorful party centerpieces out of candy bar wrappers.
Dessert time
If there will be a lot of people in attendance, make sure you have enough chocolate for everyone, and if possible try to get one of your other guests to bring a second and third fondue set so it won't be crowded around one dish. In the theme of a potluck, tell everyone to bring an item that they would like to have dipped in chocolate. This could range from marshmallows to pineapple. For decorative and dessert purposes, arrange a brightly colored fruit plate adorned with sweet slices of goodness. People will love dipping kiwi and strawberries into the hot bubbling chocolate pool.
If you are into baking, then make a plate of sweet cookies will complement the chocolate, such as ginger snaps or something vanilla-flavored.
Guess what?
A great party game to play with fondue is to take turns blindfolding guests, dipping one of the fondu foods and then feeding it to them. They will then have to guess what chocolate-colored food they are eating. You can have competitions between who has the most accurate sense of taste.
