Celebrate your heritage on St. Patty's Day with an Irish party

Date Created: 02/15/2012

Celebrate your heritage on St. Patty's Day with an Irish party. With St. Patrick's Day on the horizon, many people will be preparing to don their favorite green outerwear and feel a little bit Irish for the day. On the other hand, if you're Irish and you're planning on throwing a bash of your own for the holiday, you'll need to show everyone how it's done! Instead of the old standards of green beer and leprechauns, make your St. Patty's Day bash a celebration of Hibernian culture. Use the following tips to help your Irish party go off without a hitch.

1. Irish music. Ambiance is everything when throwing a culturally-themed party, so make a playlist of some classic Irish music and a few modern day favorites. This will get your guests in the mood for St. Patty's Day shenanigans and will set the mood for the evening.

2. Delectable cuisine. If you don't feel up to whipping up a corned beef and cabbage dinner, you can go for a few smaller scale Irish favorites like Irish soda bread, minty green cupcakes or a batch of shamrock cookies. Be sure to stock up on party tableware, napkins and other Irish party supplies that will make cleanup much easier at the end of the evening.

3. Green party decorations. It's just not an Irish party without copious amounts of green decorative accents, so go for the gusto! Add party centerpieces, streamers and curling ribbon to your serving area and greet your guests with green party curtains and personalized banners. These are quick and cost-effective additions that will help transform your venue into a cultural celebration.

4. Create a pub area. Start by bringing out a spare table in your home and then decorating it with colorful flat paper to recreate the look of a bar. You can then stand behind the bar yourself and serve drinks to your guests or hire someone to do it for you. Whichever you choose, this will help people from rummaging through your refrigerator and help keep them in your main communal area.

With St. Patrick's Day on the horizon, an Irish party is jam-packed with decorative potential that is sure to wow your guests. Best of all, you can pay homage to Irish culture and have a wonderful time in the process!
