Date Created: 09/06/2011

A few tips to throw the perfect pumpkin carving party. Now that it's early September and the weather is getting a bit cooler, planning for your Halloween party is just around the corner. But, there are many fall activities that can proceed your costume bash, and one of the ways to prep for it is to throw a pumpkin carving party. Not only will this give your Halloween bash a few extra decorations, but it is a wonderful way to spend a fall afternoon. Here are a few tips to help your party go off without a hitch.

1. Host your shindig during the day. An evening in the fall can get pretty cool, and since you don't want to have to clean up pumpkin innards indoors, holding it outside is a necessity. Set up a few tables and put down old newspapers so you can clean everything up instantly. You can embrace this festive occasion by decorating your carving area with mylar balloons, streamers and confetti to add a dash of color to your venue.

2. Hold a pumpkin carving contest. A fun way to make your carving party a bit more exciting is to see who has the greatest ability with their designs. A pumpkin is a blank canvas, so your guests can create nearly anything with the proper time and effort. When your guests have completed their pumpkins, you can create a ballot and have your friends vote for their favorites. You can also post the pictures online through a social networking website so your friends all around the country can vote for their top choices. No matter who you choose, you can give the winner a prize for all of his hard work and the satisfaction of being the top carver.

3. A selection of fall treats. With all the pumpkin carving going on, your guests are bound to work up a bit of an appetite. Put out a selection of finger foods such as cookies, chips and dip or a veggie plate. You can also make warm apple cider, which is a great option to have if the mercury starts to drop. Use some party tableware and imprinted napkins to make cleanup easier and add to the festive nature of your gathering.

A few of these tips and some engaging Halloween party supplies will help make your carving party a favorite new fall tradition!
