The poly vinyl will withstand much more than paper will. If this will be walked on by guests I would recommend the poly vinyl, however if you are only using it on the floor as a decoration for part of the party area, the flat checkered paper would be fine.Answered on 1/3/2012 by csrA:

The Tips says create a dance floor... Is there a way to get a sample of the black and silver poly vinyl 2.0 mil to show to the venue as we need to use it to cover a turf area. If it's dense enough, it would be perfect!
