Delicious Food for a Bohemian Bash

Bohemian Court EnsembleFood is an important part of your Bohemian themed party. Here are some of our favorite Bohemian recipes your guests will love!


1 ½ cup Warm Water
1 pkg Active Dry Yeast
½ cup Sugar
1 tsp Salt
2 large Eggs
8oz. canned evaporated milk
7 cups Flour
¼ cup vegetable oil
Enough oil for deep frying
Confectioner’s Sugar

Pour warm water in large bowl; sprinkle in dry yeast and stir until thoroughly dissolved. Add sugar, salt, eggs and milk. Gradually stir in 4 cups of flour and beat with a wooden spoon until smooth and thoroughly blended. Beat in ¼ cup vegetable oil. Add remaining flour, 1/3 cup at a time, beating in with a spoon until too stiff to stir. Work the rest of the flour in with your hands. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Roll dough on a floured surface to a thickness of 1/8 inch. Cut rectangles 2 ½” x 3 ½”. Heat oil in deep fryer to 360 degrees. Fry beignets 3 or 4 at a time, turning with tongs, until puffed out and brown on both sides (2-3 minutes per batch). Drain on paper towels, place on platter and put in 200 degree oven to keep warm.

Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar and serve hot.

New Orleans Cajun Gumbo
4 stalks Celery, chopped
2 med Onions, chopped
1 small Green Pepper, chopped
minced Garlic
1 quart Chicken Broth
½ cup Flour
½ cup Vegetable Oil
¼ cup Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Hot Sauce (Louisiana)
1 tsp Salt (or to taste)
2 Bay Leaves
1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
¼ tsp dried whole Thyme
¼ tsp Rosemary
2 lbs unpeeled med sized Shrimp (fresh)
2 cup cooked Chicken Drummettes
1 lb Crabmeat
3 tbsp Gumbo file’
cooked Rice
Combine ½ cup oil and flour in a large skillet, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture (or roux) is medium brown (15 to 20 minutes). Stir in onion, green pepper, celery and garlic; cook an additional 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, bay leaves, red pepper flakes, thyme and rosemary. Simmer 2 ½ hours; stir occasionally. Peel and devein shrimp; add shrimp and crabmeat and chicken drummettes during the last 10 minutes of simmering period along with Gumbo File’.
Serve over cooked rice.

Peanut Blossom Cookies
1 ¾ cup Flour
1 teaspoon Soda
½ teaspoon Salt
½ cup Butter
½ cup Peanut Butter
½ cup Sugar
½ cup packed Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 Egg
Sift together flour, soda and salt. Set aside. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and peanut butter. Gradually add in sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and egg. Blend in dry ingredients. Mix well.
Shape dough into balls and place each ball into miniature muffin tins. Bake at 350 degrees for 11 minutes or until light brown. Remove from oven and immediately place a miniature Reeces Cup in the center of each ball. Let cool before removing from tin.
Spinach Salad
1 lb. Fresh Spinach
1 cup Bean Sprouts
8 slices Fried Bacon
3 Hard Boild Eggs
Red Onions

1 cup Crisco Oil
¾ cup Sugar
1/3 cup Catsup
¼ cup Vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
Salt & Pepper
